Barenaked Ladies and Drugs
Over the last few days more information has been coming out Barenaked Ladies singer, Steven Page being busted for marijuana and cocaine possession.
My partner and I were watching the news and they did the little teaser that he had been arrested. Of course for the next three minutes of commercials we were guessing what he had done; tax fraud, DUI, suspicion of murder? Nope possesion of drugs…boring.
Maybe this says something sad about the two of us, but a musican… drugs… who would have guessed? Just about everyone.
The only thing that is interesting is the draconian laws that Page will be prosecuted under in the United States.
If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Seriously, a possibility of fifteen years, if he is found guilty, for drug use in a private apartment. If he is found guilty he won’t get the full sentence of course because he’s a “star”, but average joe schmoe would be screwed. Now this isn’t about whether drug use should be punished or not but throwing an addict into prison doesn’t help with addiction.
