Euro Cup in Toronto

Winter in Toronto is much like the season, calm and some what barren in comparison to these summer months.

But Toronto is awakening once again, it’s multi-cultural flavour coming out ofter what seems like a long hibernation.  Of course of this past weekend we had A Taste of Little Italy, a perennial favourite along College Street, stocked with good food and music in Toronto’s influential Italian community.

Of course they still had a hard time trying to top the excitement being generated by the Euro Cup.

Yesterday evening while trying to study for my upcoming mid-term all I could hear were the cars blaring their horns from the street.  The hoots and the hollers from the pedestrians would answer in response, waving their flags to elicit a yet another response.

These of course were no Canadian flags but the flags of Portugal.  All the excitement swirling around the fact that Portugal had just been officially confirmed as proceeding to the secondary round, despite a loss vs. Switzerland.

Yes for pretty much every team come Euro Cup or World Cup you will find a fanatical football loving group who cheers passionately for them.  The pubs will be packed with colours flown proudly.  It’s a vibrant aspect of the Toronto experience.
