What’s with all the Cheap Wine?
For people who don’t know me, one of my favourite online activities is Stumbling. It’s addictive and I’m a stumbling fool, so I must admit that I frequently use what I find online to come up with ideas for posts. This one is no exception.
So I must ask, what the hell is with all the cheap wine? I came across two different pages today listing “The Top Ten Wines Under $10″ Funnily enough, they were written more than a month apart and do not have even one bottle of wine shared between them. Apparently, there is a lot of good cheap wine out there, or you know, not.
My last post picked on those of umm, more affluent means. So I thought this would be a good opportunity to show my inner snob.
First of all, some of these wines are utter swill. AKA the ones found at Top Tenz, first of all they have two wines from Yellow Tail, or as I like to call them, the random gift for people you don’t like. Then at the end of their article they list Wal-Mart wine at $3 a bottle. Are there words to describe how disgusting? After that I was expecting a big finish of mix your own Grape Crush and rubbing alcohol. Supposedly this guy writes about wine all the time too, scary
The second list at MainStreet on the other hand does seem to know what they are talking about. First of all they recommend lesser known “wine” countries such as Brazil and Argentina along with the lesser known grapes such as Malbec. There are actually many fantastic, cheaper options with the Malbec, basically because it just doesn’t have the same ring as Cabernet Sauvignon. Another sign that they actually know what their talking about; they actually list the year.
All that said I don’t see the point of purposely trying to find cheap in a wine. I certainly don’t agree that you need something outrageously expensive to be good but your goal should be just that, good, not cheap.

We love dissenting opinions at TopTenz and if you have a list of top ten wines based on any criteria, such as country, grape or a higher price, we would love to publish it. You can submit it on our site or send it to admin@toptenz.net.
