Abortion Art
So apparently Yale has an arts degree program. And here I was thinking they specialized in producing piss poor presidential candidates.
Aliza Shvarts, a student of Yale, created an art project. She put together an installation and put out a press release. Now she stated that she purposely induced abortions to create her art display, but in reality the art project was to gauge the reaction of stating that she had abortions, “just for art.” Even though the press release was riddled with tell-tale signs of “FAKE!”, such as the rate that these pregnancies and abortions occurred, herbal abortion medications, and never seeing a doctor; people fell for it.
Amusingly, once Shvarts’s comments were proven to be a hoax by Yale University, claiming her work was a performance art piece, the fallout has proven to be even worse. People have been even more pissed off to find out that she wasn’t actually a mass abortionist, but simply an individual questioning societies ideas of the ‘norm.’ Of course that goes over the head of many.
They are busy nursing their wounded pride and claiming that Shvarts is not an artist because they don’t like her art. It’s really a mentality that is starting to piss me off.
These are generally the people that think art should only include the likes of Monet and those lovely waterlilies they have hung on the wall, in their bathroom, behind their toilet. I have no patience for this.
Don’t get me wrong, Monet is a fantastic artist, but he didn’t become famous because he played it safe so he could fit into your home decor. When Monet first submitted his work to the Paris Salon, along with other impressionists, the critics and public alike hated it. I mean really fucking hated it. The thought it was completely untalented trash.
The impressionists dared to have a different vision, they didn’t want to paint the portraits of the rich and famous or historical events in a completely realistic way. They wanted to show the beauty of nature with free brush strokes and vibrant colour. People hated Monet, and Van Gogh, and Klimt, and Picasso, and Dali, and Matisse, and Warhol, and Seurat and every other artist you’ve ever heard of. They all pissed people off, if you don’t piss anyone off, you’re never going to be famous and you’ll never make an impact on the art world.
So feel free to say you hate it, or any other piece of art, but please remember before you deem them as ‘not art’, that people far more educated than you have been proven so very wrong trying to make the same assertions.
